    Problem just showed up today.

I have iTunes set to sync the last 12 months worth of events from iPhoto to my iPhone. I have never had a problem until today. I recently upgraded the new iPhoto '11 v9.1.2.

I'll take pictures on one day and then upload them into iPhoto. The next day or so, I'll do the same and Merge them into the same event. For instance, if the pictures are just random (no specific event like a birthday, etc.) I'll just name the event "March 2011" As such, I might take some photos early in the month and then merge some photos into that event that I've taken at the end of the month.

iTunes has always recognized my Merged events as a single entity. Now, in iTunes, all my events have multiple entries. In other words, I now show 4 separate March 2011 events in iTunes...even though iPhoto only has 1 actual event for March 2011. Its as if iTunes is not looking at iPhoto for the actual event, but rather pulling its "event" data from somewhere else.

Is anyone else having this issue? This is horrendous, because now in my iPhone, I have multiple "Easter" events, so I can't view them without going in and out of each event separately.

This is definitely a bug that Apple should know about and fix. Any suggestions.

    Cosmo

Unless I'm missing something, there isn't a quick way to get back to the front page from the forums. After I read the posts on one story/topic, I often go back to the main page to look at other news. (I know that Safari has snapback, but sometimes I come directly to the forums from an e-mail notification instead of the main site).

btw, Happy New Year to All! And thank you Arn for updating the site and reading our comments even on holidays.

It's down at the bottom of the page:

Return to Macrumors [linked] or MacBytes[linked]

I used to have the same problem until I noticed the tiny type.

Unfortunately, there's no link to get back to the DailyTunes home page when you've crawled into the forums.

I have done almost exactly the same (a Vertex 2 120Gb in a 2008 Mac Pro).

I ordered the 3.5" SSD for exactly that reason, to simplify fitting in one of the two spare disk bays. However, I actually had some difficulty fitting; see this thread:

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1134200

The way I ended up fitting the SSD seems to have worked fine, and I subsequently ordered a 240Gb SSD which I installed in the same way. Neither of the SSDs came with their own screws, so I used the ones in the Mac's own sleds; if your SSD has suitable screws supplied with it, you may find the fitting rather easier.

    As for installing OS X:

I simply used Disk Utility to copy the original boot drive to the SSD. Prior to doing this, I moved my home folder to a separate data volume (so that I can still boot from the original HD and use the same home directories), but it obviously isn't necessary to do that. This all worked fine.

(I realise that some people advise using different tools to clone the boot volume. I have no experience of this, so all I can say is that Disk Utility worked fine. Cloning is presumably a lot quicker than reinstalling everything from scratch.)

I also applied the TRIM patch, which seems to have worked fine, with no ill effects.

    Hey thanks for the information

I've just checked out the scanner you suggested, and odly enough (or maybe not that odd) its twice the price in the uk as it is in the USA. The cheapest I could find it for was 299 (roughtly$530) from a communications company I used to work for. I should be able to get a discount of 20% because I still know guys who work there.

The only thing that concerns me is that it says its only windows compatible. I've had a look at the system requirments on several websites, and on every one it says windows only.

dXTC likes this too. If my budget would allow it, I'd get a MBP right now. Then again, if my budget was the size of Woz's, I'd already have a couple of them. (And a new iMac and a Mac Mini Server for my iTunes library and...) :)

They ship more and more products to the market, their profits keep going up and up, truly there seems to be no end to this golden age. Apple is truly an achievement, soaring upwards cutting through this recession like a hot knife through butter. I love private business. <3

Premise: Capping income as described above would DESTROY the entrepreneur spirit. True or False? What is it that motivates human beings??

I'm think what motivates people like Bill Gates is that they enjoy their jobs. I'm pretty sure that almost every billionaire got their for one of two reasons, either they worked hard because they enjoyed their job and were good at it which combined with a little luck means they make a lot, or they inherited their money. No sane person who is working just for the money would keep working much after the first billion or two I'm sure even they know that they can't spend that much money.

    Are you serious?

Whether it was meant seriously or jokingly, I think the comment was out of line. The folks who do the jailbreaks use and give their skills and time without any real desire for reward. After reading similar and even worse comments across multiple forums, I'm surprised the jailbreakers even continue their work.

It's grown into something for too many that's an expected entitlement through near demand instead of something that's eagerly awaited through patience.

Alternatively, you could create a third partition on your laptop and format it as FAT32 or exFAT and keep all of your data on there so both Windows and Mac and read & write the files.

Hmm, FAT32 only allows for 4GB, right? Anyway, can you please tell me how this can be achieved? Links would be appreciated :)

I haven't found anything that works well for Windows. I would recommend that you give MacDrive a try or look a Paragon. Both are well maintained and if there is an issue have tools to help you repair the partition.

I see, but like i said, MacDrive is paid.. So is Paragon.. i need a free version, if you know of any. thanks :D

Side note: Did you know that NTFS Mounter works perfectly for and quietly for writing NTFS from HFS?

    Cheers :)

This is more of a selling advice question than a buying as I can't seem to find anything similar on ebay... but I guess it could be posed as a buying question from another standpoint.

What would a very well kept, nearly mint (no scratches or dents/no hardware issues) Late 2008 MBP 2.53ghz w/9600GT 512mb, Express card Slot, C300 256gb SSD, 4gb RAM and new (14 charge cycles) battery be worth?

Or better yet... what's a reasonable price someone would pay for it? I'm looking to sell mine... been jobless for a while and need to pay rent... :(

What you described is NOT a Panther install CD. Panther comes on 3 disks. Maya said Panther needs a FireWire 400 supported Mac. That is pretty much the requirement for it, if you have that it will install.
This is not true, Panther requires only built in USB, Tiger requires built in Firewire, you can install Panther on the original iMac.

    Hi

Don't know if this will be of help but I spent ages looking for a way to add subtitles to iTunes content that my deaf family members buy.

I open the movie file up in subler, the file opens fine but you can't access the movie or audio parts as they are protected but you can add a .srt file into the file.

It only takes a couple of seconds and allows them to view subtitles in iTunes but it does however make the file unplayable in QuickTime x for some reason.

Also no. iBook HDDs are IDE, and MacBooks (back to 1,1) use SATA, unless there's room for an adaptor or something.

Yep, I'm with you on that. It already bugs me that my Prius has a black box for accidents and a GPS built in (for the nav system.) Why do we *trust* this government to not ask companies to turn that information over (just like they asked for our phone records) and for these corporations getting billions in tax incentives to eagerly comply? Now if you carry a GPS, government will be able to know where you are at any moment. I'm not buying it unless Apple includes a pledge with the product that they will fight to protect my legal rights if any government agency asks for these records without probable cause.

Most (if not all) new cell phones in America have built in GPS as a result of an FCC mandate for Enhanced 9-1-1 capability in mobile devices. Apple may simply be taking this required expense and turning it into a way to get more value in their device by linking it with a built in camera/iPhoto/GoogleMaps. This certainly seems like one of those "why didn't anyone else do that?" sort of (in retrospect) obvious moves that Apple is great at.

But the fact remains, most new cell phones in the U.S. at least already have GPS built in so the location of the phone can be tracked by emergency responders. It's hardly something new being developed by Apple that will make the iPhone any more subject to governmental data-mining abuse than any other mobile phone.
