And yet they still might. The culture there is very honor bound. It can great a lot of stress. Especially if you just lost the job that is supporting your family out in the country, have been publicly humiliated and probably blacklisted from similar jobs.

As for Foxconn having them arrested, I'm not surprised. They risk losing their contracts with more than just Apple if it is implied that they condone this behavior. So they have to come out against it even if they really aren't

Oh yeah!?!?! Very honor-bound I'm sure! For a country that is number 1 in the world for software piracy and other forms of theft of intellectual property they have a very strange way of showing it.

On the other hand, Apple knew when they decided to manufacture their products in China, what they were bargaining for! These people sometimes live in extreme poverty and need to find any means of supporting their family. For Apple it is just money but for these people it is their lives and their family's life. It just goes to show how companies like Apple make their money. To us North Americans they paint a very pretty picture of themselves but underneath the surface they are corporate savages who are willing to strike down any human being that gets in their way to make a buck.

    Billions?

You know, if you believe that people are out to get you long enough, eventually they will be.

Perhaps they find this position to be useful, somehow?

As for One of One Billion (me), I care not a whit who gets in my car.

My belief is that if you want to patent something, it has to be tangible. If you are doing nothing but writing patents on something you've never made, sorry bub, you lose out. Make a product and sell it, then your welcome to patent all day.

I'm tired with companies that just have a "business process" patent and think that it's something that they can get away with having. Where is the "product" that you sell to consumers? I don't see you offering your "business process" for sale, since it's your bread and butter, but I digress.

Build something that can be patented or quit filing patents, pretty easy.

In this context, Nokia had some great ideas, patented it, but never made a product that they sold to anyone or used in any of their products. My belief is it's an invalid patent.

The antenna issue is a smaller problem when compared to emails and open letters coming from Apple which insult the intelligence of its customers while providing no facts to back up their claims.

What formula were they using originally a few years ago? Why after an update a few years back did reception magically appear better? What formula are they using now. And does the formula at all dictate whether or not the radio gets more power or not to keep its signal.

    Non Issue
    You don't have the fact.

Comments like this are fueling a small fire which turned into one that's raging.

Acknowledge that some or perhaps all iPhones have an inherent flaw and fix it. It's not that hard of a concept. Personally, I'd respect Apple a lot more if they admitted SOME problem and that they were fixing it.

Instead we get a worthless open letter and these emails implying that Apple is 100 percent right and that our data is wrong.

Really? How are dropped calls bad data. If I'm getting a dropped call, I'm getting a dropped call. That's like telling me I'm not bleeding when I have an open wound I'm looking at.

That's important if you're an investor. or employee. As a consumer - who cares how much money a company makes. It's not about their profit, it's about their products.

I can agree with that. But rmwebs said that Steve should resign. Steve works for the share holders, and they do care about the profits.

Stating that Steve should resign because he steered the company into new markets which make Apple 2-3 times as much as before is just ridiculous IMHO.

Apple told Congress that the GPS info to "analyze traffic patterns and density" (which I too, originally took to be about signals, not navigation) is only sent to Apple every 12 hours. Hardly realtime data.

So right now, it could simply be data collected as test info to help developers more realistically simulate traffic during code testing.

That's kind of immaterial if the data is timestamped, no? It would only need to be real-time for when they actually deploy it, which we would know about.

Conceptually, this is much cooler than it appears to be. What Apple has done is much more than listed a few new(?) input devices, because:

    1) They have actually identified the lowest common denominator for most super-popular gizmos today a base unit for computers, cell phones, iPods, remote controls, game controllers, PSP:s etc. , and

    2) They have shown that they can produce such base units (of different sizes and shapes), and leave the rest as cheap and customizable add-ons.

This is taking a mathematical mode of procedure and applying it to product development, and it's brilliant. Maybe there won't be any direct gizmo-spawning out of this, but surely there will be lots of indirect advancements in current product lines.

Conceptually from this perspective it is true. Its phenomenal manufacturing innovation if they can set it up like this. It would result in a shift in how people purchase and use electronics. However, mechanically it seems a much more inneficeint way of creating flexibility that people won't use more than once a week.

Right, but you don't know if the leaked design and specs. are only going to the case manufacturers.. Think about what ODM's can do learning the iPad2 designs ahead of time.

They can't do anything with it. People lets get this strait Apple is not making anything special. All the parts are of the shelve its true they make it look nice but at the end of the day the hardware is no big deal, its more of the OS and the rest of the experience. Its like religion the words make no sense but the feeling people get been around others that think almost exactly like them that is what makes them come back. :p

I was hoping this would fix the BootCamp/Apple Bluetooth Keyboard issue (you have to turn the keyboard off and on when first booting Windows for the keyboard to be recognized). Unfortunately, no luck.

the most hilarious thing though is that the new slim 360 comes with a "Kinect - port" ... wh-h-what ? so the installed userbase of 30-40 millions is essentially worthless ?... seriously that's such a obvious ridiculous error ... yo ucan't make this **** up

Maybe it uses 2 USB sockets on a regular Xbox? I dunno. They cannot ignore the existing 360 userbase. That'd just be plain silly.

It's good that you apologized before giving us all this misinformation!
Apple in fact offers some of the CHEAPEST rackmount servers. That's why they were used for the Virginia Tech cluster remember!!

Go to Dell's page, I just customized one of their PowerEdge 2950's to be EXACTLY the same as the Xserve (except for the OS) and here's the diff:

    Dell PowerEdge 2950
    $6,749.00 - $1000 because it's over $5000
so... $5749 (just the fact that they can take $1000 off if you're spending over $5000 shows how much extra they are charging customers!)
Dual Core Intel Xeon, 4MB Cache, 3.00GHz, 1333MHz FSB
    Operating System Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard x64 Edition,Includes 5 CALs
    Additional Processor
Dual Core Intel Xeon 5160, 4MB Cache, 3.00GHz, 1333MHZ FSB
    Memory
    1GB 533MHz (4x256MB), Single Ranked DIMMs
Riser Card Riser with 3 PCIe Slots
    Primary Hard Drive
    80GB, SATA, 3.5-inch, 7.2K RPM Hard Drive
    Primary Controller
PERC 5/i, x4 Backplane, Integrated Controller Card

    Apple Xserve
    $4,798.00
    Two 64-bit 3.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors
1.33GHz frontside bus and 4MB shared L2 cache per processor
1GB memory (667MHz DDR2 ECC fully buffered DIMM)
    80GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA hard drive1
Built-in ATI Radeon X1300 graphics with 64MB RAM
    Mac OS X Server 10.4 Unlimited-Client Edition

So go back to your mummy and cry! At a fraction of the price the Xserve is actually a better machine because I could not get 667Mhz DDR2 for the Dell! The Dell also has no graphics card!

This is not including the fact that Apple gives substantial discounts if you order a stack of these with a RAID!

So when you say 'Dells'... be very specific!!!
Rackmount Dells with Woodcrest Xeons (just like the Xserve) are a LOT more expensive than just some Dell server that is apparently 1/5 of the price of the Xserve.

It is a MYTH that Dell is cheap! Stack them side-to-side with Apple on any level and their machines are generally either the same price or more expensive than Apple's.

Our company was buying Dell servers when I came to work there. Between 2002 and we replaced 2 motherboards and FOUR backplanes. If you have never had a backplane failure, it is ugly. The SCSI controller cards plug into it. When it goes, your data looks like a bunch of smiley faces looking back at you. Dell was very quick to replace our failed hardware, and even faster to apologize. We only have one of the original 13 Dell servers left. I will not buy another. Add that to your TOC.

So... I posted earlier (ordered- 3/11 7:30pm and got a shipment date of 4/1, arriving 4/6) and decided to check my order status with Apple. As I mentioned it hadn't changed (before lunch). Came back after lunch and noticed people saying their order status HAD changed. So I looked again, 3 hours later... STILL NO CHANGE.

Are people really seeing their shipment dates change? Starting to lean toward a lil' BS... but don't want to cast judgment :(

My ship date hasn't changed but the status has changed to prepared for shipment. As you can see I ordered it on the 11th and the whole time it has been listed with an April 1st ship date. So my best guess is that it is waiting for Mr Factory Guy to get in Friday morning and hand off the latest pallets of tablets to Mr Shipping Guy.

Thats because many, many people purchase Apple computers for the same reason they buy designer jeans or luxury cars- they want to be SEEN with it.

You really think anyone would pay more for a luxury car if they couldn't impress others with it?? Any car can get you from A to B, and most do it with an equal level of dependability. It's convincing those with low self esteem to spend more than they have to just to make themselves feel better about themselves that has helped luxury automobiles.....and Apple.

I don't think many on this board bought an Apple for that reason, but there are millions out there that did. And you can find most of them in public attempting to "strut their stuff".
You must have never driven a luxury car?

    LMAO

Getting you to the same point is not the purpose, hell a bus can do that ..why dont all of us low self esteem car drivers just get on the darn bus, apple shmapple?! I mean doesnt a bus get you the same places as a car?

    What a load of crock.

Yet what those hackintosh prove is that OEMS is charging a "Workstation tax" of around 1000$, +/- a few hundreds depending on configuration. E
    Fixed.

Dell, Apple and HP all charge around the same price for their Xeon workstations.
